This morning I got a call from a local Bristow, VA family in need of a photographer to document their home birth. I was able to get to their home by 1:30 to document Larissa’s laboring process and delivery shortly after 5:30 p.m. What an amazing experience. Larissa was so calm and focused. I was in awe of her composure. Her husband Rob was such a great support and equally calm and nurturing. Tierney and Lori of the Marshall Midwifery were there to assist Larissa with her home birthing experience. The plan was to deliver in a birthing tub, but their baby girl had other ideas. She ended up being delivered in the master bathroom, right into her daddy’s hands with the amniotic sac still intact. Lori and Tierney called this being “born in the caul”. I got an awesome shot of it, but it’s not suitable for public display. Trust me, it was a.m.a.z.i.n.g. I am totally hooked. If I could do it all over again, I’d love to have my babies at home.
Just as we left their home, the snow began to fall… an estimated 18-30 inches is in the forecast for this weekend, or so I’ve heard from various sources. Biggest snowfall VA has had in years. What a way to enter the world little one!
Here are a few photographic highlights:
