I’m kind of partial to all the outtake moments during a shoot. I come across ones like this and they become instant faves. I mean, come on… what’s not to love about this one? Kinda goes along with my mood while editing at 2 a.m. Mom by weekday, photo editor by the wee hours of the morning. I manage to squeeze in 4 hours of sleep. It’s all good. Coffee is my vice.

There is nothing I love more than photographing fresh, newborn babies. They are *hands down* my most favorite subject. Here is little Mr. Hoban. His parent’s rings may seem a bit cliche, but I love the way it shows scale… how incredibly small we start out when we are born. Perfect little miracles. The overwhelming love we feel for our children is all-consuming. One of life’s most perfect blessings. I offer free newborn sessions with every paid maternity session. A 2-for-1, if you will. Gives me a good excuse to play with babies since I’m done having my own (we’ve capped out at 4 kids).

Born Monday, January 21, 2008 @ 11:53 a.m., 7 lbs 12 oz, 21 inches long. Today my only daughter turned one. My last baby. It took four tries, but we finally got our little girl. Today was a little bittersweet. Happy to have spent a wonderful year with this wonderful little girl. A little sad that she is our last baby. But she completes our family. She is happy and sweet. The calm amongst her 3 older brothers. Happy birthday Mika-girl. We love you so very much.

Today I had the honor of photographing our friend’s new addition to their family. We’ve known John and Joanna since San Diego, when John and my husband flew helicopters together. The Navy brought both our families here to live and work near DC. I had to post an outtake from their session because nothing gives more comedic relief than when baby lets loose with the most common of bodily functions. Thankfully he aimed away from everyone. Good boy. =)
